Classic recollections: 1970 Pontiac GTO

“After owning all those other GTOs, I knew this one would be the ultimate,” Alesi said. , shop, Custom Classics GTO. There was a Chevelle SS, a Coronet 440 and a GTO. A Verdoro Green '69 hardtop soon joined it. Later, both were swapped out for a black '70 Ram Air IV. That was exchanged for a Cardinal Red '70 Judge ragtop, which recently hit the road to make room for his sixth and final installment. That first model was swapped for a cherry-red '69 convertible. With arrow straight bodywork and full of potential, Alesi knew this would be the perfect start in creating his Judge dream car. The search for his pinnacle of a Pontiac led him in 2002 to a Doylestown, Penn. There he found a primered, engineless '70 convertible undergoing the restoration process. Q:

Pontiac GTO??????????????????????????????????

why did they stop making new pontiac gto's????????? will they make any more?
(asked by tison28s on June 16, 2007)

A: Supposedly, because the Holden it was designed from didn't meet more stringent American safety specs, and GM decided it wasn't worth the extra cost of reworking the American version for a car that wasn't selling well. Or that the Holden was being redesigned, and GM decided it wasn't worth creating the left-hand drive version for America. That's two of the versions of the story I've heard, and in either case, it all comes down to cost. GM wasn't making enough on GTOs to have it be worth the money invested.

Originally it was that Holden was discontinuing the car that the GTO was based on, but I think now they were referring to a redesign that GM was unwilling to carry over to the American version. (answered by Bill Crittenden on June 16, 2007)

A: Because they were so lame.

Poor styling, poor performance. Not really a good value.

GM needs to start competing! Their next hope is the Camaro, but with gas going up, it may be too late. (answered by Happy Guy on June 16, 2007)

Q:

How much would it cost for me to get a Pontiac GTO?

I don't have a license, but I'm planning on changing that within the next few months, & (assuming the regulations go along with it) I'd like to get a Pontiac GTO. How much would that cost me?
I'm not interested in a particular year, but I do like that car.
