on this renault laguna 1998 2 ltr 8 valve,its got gear change problem,when the engine is cold and you set of on a journey it changes gear alright,as it warms up and when it gets to running tempreture it's hard to get in gear,reverse is worse as its best to stop the engine to select reverse then restart the engine,the car has a new clutch cable now so thats not the problem,I thought of a gear oil change may help,Any other suggestions would be helpfull. A: if the gearbox is low on oil you will have difficulty selecting any gear or even moving the gear stick through the neutral gate when it gets to running temp. if you are having trouble getting into reverse & its grinding i would think the clutch is dragging and needs to be replaced (answered by ALAN B on October 14, 2007)

A: Any good quality synthetic muligrade oil (i.e. 20-50W Mobil 1) will be fine for both petrol and desiel Renaults. If you live in a very cold climate you may need a less viscous oil (i.e. 5-35W). Your local auto-parts store should be able to advise about this , take their advice about the grade of oil (the W rating numbers that indicate the thickness of the oil) but don't let them try to sell you an expensive oil as all synthetic oils are similar and there is very little to gain from buying a dearer brand of oil. in fact many cheaper oils are identical to the name brands and are simply re-labeled (answered by satanblackdoggy on February 11, 5751)

A: I suspect that it is not possible to disconnect the immobiliser as it is build into the ECU. My advice would to first disconnect the battery and let the car stand for half an hour, if this does not work you will need to get the car down to Renault.
