BMW to adopt new naming structure

what's wrong with these immortal names like silver ghost, silver cloud, phantom, silver wraith, silver MINI and Rolls-Royce will also be affected by the change and it is possible that both brands could eventually adopt an alphanumeric naming structure. I'm sorry but I think that changing the names for the RR brand is stupid. Now we'll have a RR 760i, or RR 4. Speaking at a recent press event, Sales and Marketing Director Ian Robertson said "There will be an evolution of naming across all brands.

You Ask We Answer

Q:

Can anyone please tell me if a BMW V8 will be compatible with Rolls Royce Silver Shadow?

I need to know if I can replace an ageing Rolls Royce Silver Cloud V8 with that of a new BMW V8 as found in the M3 or X5. Will it be compatible, and will it give me a better performance or worse? Also what is the cost of a new BMW V8 in the UK?
(asked by Sayanhya on June 25, 2006)

A: No, it will not be compatible. The Shadow has a Rolls-Royce designed V8 that includes the pumps for the high pressure brake system. The BMW engine will not, and may not even fit in the space available. If you want to heep your Shadow it's probably better to rebuild the Rolls-Royce engine; if you want a BMW get a BMW.

Fitting an alternate engine to one of these cars is a major and expensive engineering project and will virtually destroy the resale value, since these are now collector's cars. (answered by Berry K on June 25, 2006)

Q:

WHERE CAN I FIND A ROLLS ROYCE SILVER SHADOW MARK 3 IN THE UK?

rolls royce silver shadow mark 3
(asked by reuben l on February 11, 9648)

A: There wasn't a Shadow III.

Shadow I was 1965 to 1976

Shadow II was 1977 to 1980 when the Silver Spirit was introduced. The early Spirits were basically Shadow II's with an updated body, the floorpan, most of the mechanics and interior were the same.

There was however, a Silver Spirit III launched 1995. (answered by "isitme" on February 11, 3552)

A: Try groups with national coverage or large centres and auction centres.

However I though the Silver Shadow only had Marks 1 and 2 ending production in 1980. (answered by Carry On..! on February 11, 4984)

Q:

ALL ABOUT THE 1979 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER SHADOW?

I want to know all the technical data on the Rolls-Royce silver shadow including:
Engine:
Capacity (cc)
Arrangement / cylinders / valves
Power (hp at rpm)

Transmission

Performance:
Acceleration 0-62 mph
Top speed (mph)

Fuel consumption

(asked by neos master on February 11, 6914)

A: My guess is, 410 c.u. V8. horsepower unspecified. GM turbo- hydramatic 400. Performance and handling way better than most cars that are that big. Unfortunatley the styling is so bland, it will not be a car people care about. (answered by Tipper on February 11, 8148)
