Q:

How to prevent the overheat problem of Subaru 2.5 DOHC engine?

It is known that Subaru 2.5 DOHC engine (until 1999) may experience overheat. The question is about what to do to prevent this from happening.
(asked by Aliaksei on April 17, 2006)

A: Hello
My name is Todd, the owner of At Your Place Auto Repair.
It is not only your car but here are some things that will help prevent it. Change your coolant every 30K miles. When you refill the coolant start the car and follow you upper radiator hose to your thermostat. Usually on the thermostat housing you will have a air bleeder valve, it will like like a brake bleeder valve on all cars. Open it about one turn, sometimes it may be on the intake manifold close to the housing. If you can't find it but a thermostat and gasket. Screw in the bolts finger tight, enough to keep coolant from coming out. Starts car and when it warms up pressure will start to spray out and when it does then tighten bolts. What you are trying to do is get the air out. Air pockets can prevent proper flow of coolant.
If you are driving and your car is overheating make sure it is full on coolant and turn your heater on it will act like a radiator. You will get hot inside but that's better that forking up a new engine.
Hope this helps
