2011 Subaru Forester, Practicality with a Capital “P”

However Subaru , an automobile manufacturer long known for it’s no frills approach to building a good, safe, low maintenance automobile, personifies the essence of practicality with the 2011 Subaru Forester. The 2011 Subaru Forester has the full-time all wheel drive that Subaru’s are known for. However, hailing from the Southeast and having an opportunity to test drive the Forester in a torrential rain storm, I quickly developed an appreciation for the sure footedness of full-time all wheel drive. While we’re on the subject of handling, the Forester drove well under urban driving conditions. Now that crossover SUV’s have captured the hearts of U. S. automobile consumers, all automobile manufacturers have one on the market.

Q:
Does a Subaru Forester typically overheat on long trips?
I just recently bought a subaru forester and ive been on 2 trips, one about an hour long and another about three. on both trips it overheated but i cant seem to find a significant leak in the radiator or the coolant reservoir. any suggestions?
(asked by Scott C on February 10, 3578)
A: No, it should be at the temperature of the thermostat. If it's overheating, there is a problem. It's possible to overheat without a significant leak.
Check hoses. Especially the bottom one, it may be closing on vacuum and stopping water flow. Make sure it has a thermostat and it's working properly, especially if it seems to take a long time to reach operating temperatures.
The vanes on the water pump might be worn to the point where water isn't circulating fast enough, or you may have a plugged radiator.
Have you had your mechanic look at it? What did he say? (answered by oklatom on February 10, 4031)
Q:
Does the computer need to be reset when replacing the timing belt on a Subaru Forester 2000 manual?
The timing belt needs to be replaced on my Subaru Forester (2000 manual). Is this a complicated procedure for an experienced mechanic (although maybe not familiar with Subaru)? We have been told that the computer needs resetting after the timing belt has been replaced. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
(asked by feevagh on October 15, 2006)
A: Never heard of the computer needing reset although it is a good idea to have the timing on the car checked as the new belt will change it slightly. (answered by bungee on October 15, 2006)
