Q:

2005 toyota tacoma 3" lift does it need to adjust transfer case height?

If I lifted my 2005 Toyota tacoma 4x4 would I need to put a spacer to adjust the height of my transfer case or get a slip yoke eliminator like on my jeep?? I would lift it 3".
(asked by Jeem D on July 23, 2008)

A: No, a 3 intch lift is fine, just watch the front diff, you may have a issue with the CV joints unless you get the kit to dropp the diff. (answered by Chad F on July 23, 2008)

A: on a 3 inch spacer kit i doubt you would need to mess with the transfer case. Anything over 4 I would see it being an issue. Example The toytec 3 in lift for your truck does not require it . (answered by tarheel2nv on July 23, 2008)

Q:

Can I program a spare key for our 2005 Toyota Tacoma without dealer help?

We have lost one of the keyrings for our truck, and also I would like to have a spare or two around anyway, just in case.
It is a 2005 Tacoma, it has the remote unlock keyfob which is nice, but not necessary really.
I see I can purchase replacement keys online, but they need to be programmed to match the truck.
Can anyone tell me how to do it?
(asked by Michael on August 11, 2009)

A: I need to know if it is a black or grey key you are trying to program, and make sure that you have a black key to program from. If you are programming a black key from a black key, do this:
1. Insert old black key into ignition. LEAVE THE IGNITION OFF THE ENTIRE TIME.
2. Pump the gas five times
3. Pump brake six times.
4. Remove old black key from ignition.
5. Put new black key in ignition.
6. Pump gas one time.
7. Let the truck sit like that until the security light quits blinking.

If it is a grey key, do exactly the same, but pump gas 4 times and brake 5 times.

If you do not have a black key to start with, you cannot program it. You cannot add a key yourself if you only have a sub (valet) key. It can be done, but the dealer has to erase all the old keys and start over. (answered by on August 11, 2009)

A: some keys can b programed with the original KEY and the vehicle ...directions will b in ur owners manual....some can only b done thro the dealership...u can call the service department of ur local yota dealer and ask

aslo most chipped spare keys will lose there programing if not used every 30/90 days respectively...so use ur spare once in a wile (answered by Karle on August 11, 2009)

Q:

How much will it cost to fix a 2-inch scratch on the tailgate of a 2005 silver Toyota Tacoma?

Car: 2005 Toyota Tacoma, Silver
Scratch: About 2-inches on the tailgate
(asked by lelandwilcox on July 22, 2007)

A: The color or size of the scratch doesn't really matter, the whole tailgate must be painted anyway. Generally speaking, it cost on average of about $250.00 to $300.00 to refinish one panel. If there are any emblems or lettering on the gate, you'll most likely have to pay for new ones. Sometimes they can be retaped or glued back on, but at most shops it takes more time than it's worth to do that. (answered by Robert B on July 22, 2007)
