Dakar rally genes in a pickup?

An LCV or light commercial vehicle -- like a pickup -- must have the cargo capacity and the ground clearance to tackle unmade roads carrying heavy cargo and passengers. It used to be easy to pigeonhole a vehicle by its looks and what it was meant to do. A sports car is low slung, the better to fling it through circuit corners. It must be capable in bad weather and because of its function, it is usually tough, big and heavy. It was once relegated to sports applications because of its ability to enhance power It’s small: light and usually cramped for even just two persons.

Q:

Whats wrong with my 1984 Toyota truck 4x4?

I have an 84 Toyota truck 4x4 with a 22R carburated motor and the darn thing didn't pass smog. The truck has this strong fuel smell like its not burning all of the fuel. He said that it was burning too much fuel. Do you believe it has to do something with the carburator? Would valve adjustments have anything to do with that? A catalityc converter perhaps? I have till the end of the month to get this smog done. Thank you all

Q:

WHAT KIND OF GEARS SHOULD I PUT IN MY 1981 TOYOTA TRUCK 4X4?

I HAVE A 1981 TOYOTA TRUCK 4X4. IT HAS 40'' TIRES AND WANTED TO CHANGE THE GEARS BUT I DONT KNOW WHICH ONES TO GET. PEOPLE SAY 5.29 LOW GEARS ARE BEST?
(asked by E-DUB on February 11, 2518)

A: 5.29 gears is probably a good choice with 40" tires, but it really depends on how you intend to use the truck. (answered by kwhotrods on February 11, 8974)

Q:

What would be the best model of Toyota 4x4 truck to get?

Should I get a pre1995 4x4 pickup or spend a little more on a 1995-1998 Tacoma? Or would it be better to fix up my old 1979 Toyota 4x4? Like a motor swap, lift kit, fix the rust and interior and all that good stuff? Which would yall suggest to do?
(asked by lonewolfshel on August 07, 2007)

A: I think that depends on how much work you want to do, or money you want to spend. Modern trucks are safer and more dependable. I have a 2007 Tacoma and it's awesome! But i would never take it off-road, at least not off a trail. If I were you and I had all the time i wanted and and all the money i needed, I would buy a newer truck(or new). Then i would fix up your 79' to be an off-road badass. Don't spend too much money on the body, spend it all on the suspension, engine, tranny, diffs, and so on.
