Improved handling and better looks put Volkswagen’s new “new Beetle” streets ahead of its modern predecessor. But instead they opted for the Golf platform, and the end result was over-bloated, over-complicated and looked like a child had designed it. In the late 1990s, when they finally decided to resurrect the Beetle – the people’s car – which had sold in multiples of millions around the world, they did so with, you’d imagine, the best intentions. And, in an affordable price range, the people’s car should find its niche in the market again, writes PADDY COMYN . IT IS ALWAYS risky to mess with an icon.

Q:
A: Strictly Foreign is probably your best bet.
That said, most people prefer to put the big bodycolor bumpers from the 90-92 MKII's. Some add (with slight modification) the Euro MKIII VR6 front spoiler which looks pretty good. European G60 Golf front arches are also popular, they make the car look wider.
So many cool options with those cars. I'm sort of out of touch with that whole scene but it was kinda trendy for a while to delete all trim, moldings and arches, while using the older thin blade bumpers from the euro 85-89 cars. I thought that also looked good in a different way.
Do whatever you like best , MKII's are a great choice regardless.
